I changed what I eat and now I feel more alive!

All last year, I didn't give a shit about my weight. My focus was on being happy, and fully enjoying everything in life.  Which included food!  Cheese, booze, fried chicken!  This year I feel like I'm a different kind of happy.  The happy that is more relaxed and chill, but confident in myself.  It feels like two different house decorating mentalities - before: "Oh shiny things"  - after: feeling house proud and giving a shit about how things look and where things go.  I gained the desire to be body confident back again!  Not that it left completely...
YUM: quinoa, beans, sweet peas, broccoli, cranberries
Three things I have fallen in love with:  Quinoa, chia and GREEN THINGS.  As my favourite house mate of all time Ivy, once said.  "Green is health. Eat the health".  I may have paraphrased a little but you get the drift!
More yum: Salad, salmon, tomatoes, halloumi, and pomegranate, and corn
A pomegranate is about $4 each, but it lasted me 5 salads!  SO worth it for the yummy splash of sweet crunch! Eggplant.  I grew up never knowing how to cook this properly and probably still don't I've stuffed and grilled them once or twice, but my favourite way is lightly frying them on both sides and covering in herbs or paprika!

I’m starting my own business and sharing the journey with you!

I wrote this in the airport and I couldn’t think of a better title.  I’ve not wanted to start my own business all along.  All I really wanted to do was not work for someone else.  I really wanted to feel free, and probably work harder but enjoy what I was doing more.

I only had one or two goals I wanted to achieve by the time I was 30.  I did it. All I wanted to be is someone’s boss.  Not for the achievement of telling someone else what to do, but to science the fraud police in my head.  That somehow I was a valid and qualified person because I was entrusted with the responsibility of telling other people what to do.

It happened quite by accident.  There wasn’t a manager, the team was growing and I put my hand up, I volunteered to take on the responsibility.  I learned heaps and loved it.

But I was still working for someone else.

Empath: and to know if you might be one!

I am an Empath. Kinda magical, and I can pick up on how you might be feeling or thinking before you might say anything. It is all about energy and being aware of your own, and that of others around you. Empath is another term for Clairsentient. With that, we’re moving from the world of psychology to the world of spiritual healing.

Signs (not proof!) of being an empath..

People tell you that they feel better after talking to you about their physical and/or emotional pains, but you tend to feel worse after such conversations.

Monday Funday

Tomorrow is a public holiday, and I'm quite looking forward to having the day off.  Half because I'm lazy and half because it gives me a chance to catchup on life.  Or my business... yes I have to actually consciously turn off sometimes!

Why is it a public holiday?  Cos horse racing is a mental craze here in Melbourne.  No other states of Australia have a holiday tomorrow, just Victoria cos Aussies are weird.  (Love you weirdoes haha)

What really blew me however.  Was that apparently, they just switched Anzac day off to give us one now.  I get there aren't many holidays this time of the year.  I suppose I think Anzac is a much better cause to remember.  Maybe that's just me and my nostalgic memories of going to the museum to watch the military and returned service men's parades.  Even if that did mean getting up at 6am. Ugh.

Anyways, horse racing is awful. That is all.

Start-up Business: "GET A LAWYER"

Right okay.  Great advice thank you.  But where does one start?  Google?  Bank advice website? The government's website?

Okay so I looked at the last two and got some great advice but no real connections or pointers of where to go.  So I'm trying google.  YAY google... I'll keep a broad perspective and also you, know a running update of how it all goes!

Lawyers:  not a good topic to google, firstly I have only half an idea of what I need one for.
A) what kind of business am I setting up and how will that effect tax and hopefully one day in the faaaar distant future, paying myself...
B) Contracts, e-commerce T's and C's and all those other agreements that one must have when business involves not just working with ones' self only!  People!  Community!!

Business Balls! Start-ups are hard

"Calm your mind today. Take time to hear your thoughts and settle and your ideas mature.  Taking time for mental restoration now, will help you focus and stay motivated in the days to come."
This quote is from my Galaxy Tarot app.  It provides a random card every day - or my card of the day.  I'm using because it is really helping me get familiar with all the card and their applications.  I don't think there could have been a better card for today tho.

Join the mailing list.

Blog websites are great.  Content is interesting, but just not interesting enough that you want to type my URL in all the time.
www.missphloss.com  It just hasn't got the pull like The Onion, or Huff Post.
That's OK. I get it.  SO I've made it easy.  You want to receive my updates and blog posts - I will email them to you!
Enter your email address:

You can unsubscribe any time and I will not rent, spam, sell or mis-use your details in any way. You know, because I LOVE you.

It'll be great, kinda like a long distance relationship.  I know you care, even though you don't call every day.

Going into business!

I've always had a dream.  A dream of not working for the man.  Funny - Burning Man, growing up reading "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and "Who moved my cheese"..  What would you expect from this colourful adventure seeking part time hippie!?  Yes. SELF employed.
Back in New Zealand I was (kind sometimes still am) part of an amazing blogging community.  These amazing people blogged their hearts out - www.danijustis.com www.aych.com being two of my favourites.  I kinda did however I was, I'm an ashamedly admitting it - in it for the fun, parties and perks.  One of THOSE bloggers.   I had a full time job and flexible hours when I needed them to run off for a week to Fashion week or other events.  GLAMOUROUS.

Well you'd think so, mainly it's a huge amount of planning, writing about things you do, and can feel SUPER narcissistic if you really aren't clear about what or why you're doing it.  It wasn't a business for me, so I often felt bad.  Or felt super cheeky when I got stuff I felt like I hadn't earned.

Thank fuck winter is done!

Winter is hard, winter us always hard unless you're a skii bunny chasing high mountain sunshine and the soft white stuff to skii on!

Winter to me means rain, wind, cold, wet and miserable. Mostly it's dark. Darker than normal and less sunshine hours.

Even less when you're cooped up in an office  8 hours a day!

So because this post isn't all about complaining about winter i wanted to say Wooohoo!!! OMG! YAY!!! THANK GOODNESS!  That sunshine and warmth are back for a few months!

Obviously I celebrated.

Tarot Tarot Tarot Tarot: The joys of a witchy queer!

As a fiery red head for about 6 months LOTS has changed in my life.  In one sense I've calmed down. In an other I'm 3 times more radical and out there.  I'm living more and more my true self.  Backing myself.   Saying NO when I mean it and not backing down, and saying YES with confidence when I believe whole heartedly in or about something... It's incredibly exciting.

These photo are from the FECK Melbourne art competition exhibition Gallery opening.  They are glorious and I love the celebration of the Sacred Yoni and feminine intimacy.  Love it.  That whole night was a completely crazy experience.  Black light body paint = nakedness.  That is a story for another time

Love life and live happy

Full moon of emotions.  The end is in sight for the next full moon to bring change, vision and purpose.

I did a reading for myself as I've not been having the greatest time at work.  It's been draining alot of my soul energy and emotional happiness.

This weekend I'm all about healing and starting the head and heart space to make changes.   The energy and emotion around these cards I couldn't draw the meanings till the next morning. Here's sharing with you the cards..

1. Knight of Swords (Air)
Do not let emotion come between you and your purpose.  Refreshing honesty not acknowledging the possibility of failure.

Off the grid

Thinking about my upcoming trip to America to Burning Man (OMG I STILL NEED FLIGHTS) I have been looking at some amazing pictures of Off the Grid homes.  Check out the photos on my photo blog: http://onlypinkthings.tumblr.com/  They're beautiful and more and more I am craving the bush, camping, water in lakes and rivers.  Which is ironic considering Burning Man is a desert. In a dried up lake bed.  However it is self sustainable, and eco-friendly... for the week that the city exists...
I'm looking forward to a week offline, disconnected and blissfully out of touch with reality.

Wonderful Witchy Wednesday

Wild Witchy Wonderful Wednesday.

I was going to do another "Things I love Thursday" as I haven't done one in I think at least over a year.  But here I am, on a Wednesday writing again.   Today I feel rested, invigorated, lighter, happy, excited and ON.

I half wrote this post months ago- but she's doing some amazing things.  Including a pop up shop! Here is the link if you'd like more info on the shop: SHOP which is literally around the corner from my house!! :D

You know you have you blog MOJO back when you attend a Fashion show.  After doing New Zealand Fashion week as the most colourful person almost every day amongst a sea of trendy cuts and hipsters all dressed in BLACK.

Witchy Queer: Friday the 13th with a sassy bite on the ass

Burning Man 2015: Self love and sensory overload

You must love yourself first and foremost. It wasn’t until Amani and I had done much inner healing work on ourselves that we had the adhikara to attract this kind of partnership. You get what you put into the world, especially in relationships where the other person is always your clearest reflection. If you fill yourself with love, love will be reflected. One person could never be everything you need, and it’s selfish and unreasonable to place that burden on someone. Instead, be whole unto yourself.

Fill yourself with radiance, love, fullness, dreams, aspirations, joy, beauty, and magic and you will find that your partner is simply pouring magic and wonder out of their pores for you as well. Then you exponentially better each other. Become vessels, and like two mirrors held to one another whose mere proximity turns them into an infinity mirror, you will grow infinite depth between you.

Unplugging: reconnect with Nature

Amazing views from the top of the hills, all over the bay.  What you can't see is all the tiny yachts and sail boats. The seagulls soaring around over head. And the smell of the ocean.
This is how you do camping, yes otherwise known as Glamping. It's practically luxury.. Luxury wrapped in 4 walls of canvas. The sand, sea smells, moonlit walks on the beach at 1am.

Witchy Queer: The day I made a friend cry and realise this is more powerful than me!

I like to be a little magical, a Witchy Queer... and I don't care if this all sounds a little like fairy tales and bull-shit.  To me it's a special gift and a sense of self awareness that not everyone is blessed with.

I've always known, and had the oddest people tell me they can feel my energy or that I've clairvoyant talents.  However to me it's more than that.  It all stems from a belief system.  I'd like to share with you mine and how I've rationalised it to satisfy my sense of needing balance of mysticism and reality.
Fate or Destiny?
I believe that you can control your future, you can change or influence your life path.  Otherwise look at me, I was born to be a housewife, in a good christian family, have 3.5 kids a husband and a picket fence.  Or at least that's the dream for me my parents had and they, bless their hearts did every thing they could to give me the best start on that path. Obviously this post is a sign that didn't happen..

Burning Man 2009

What will 2014 look like?

Festivals, Thanks Melbourne you're amazing and I love being in you!

I've been to four festivals this year alone just in Victoria, out of Melbourne. And I plan to go to at least a few more this year here.
But also I managed to get my tickets to Burning Man!  Soo fucking happy.  SEE YOU IN A FEW MONTHS BURNING MAN! Can you just imagine it, I'm doing my happy dance around the bedroom?  I fully condone jumping on the bed in situations like this!!  Bring it on!

Now just to persuade the Beaverton Camp crew to pick me ( I'm not quite sure how that bit works.)
Is this proof enough that I'm keen enough guys??
See this?   I was newly out and you'll helped soooo much, and now I really want to participate, contribute and give back. I still have this from Burning Man 2009!

Be good to people

Even shitty ones.

Be a rainbow in someone else's cloud

Well I think I have covered on the colourful requirements.

Crazy? Let me get down off my Unicorn and slap you!

All of the time.

And proudly weird.

If one more person says "That's so gay"

I'll shower them with glitter like a baptism of STUPID.

Credit: see picture.

I love you, you have ever reason to live

Seasonal Defective Disorder or Winter Blues part 6

BRING ON SUMMER TIME!!  June, July and August in the Southern hemisphere are the crux of winter, often cold and wet in the more tropical countries and of course the days are shorter and darker and less sunny.
In many species, activity is diminished during the winter months in response to the reduction in available food and the difficulties of surviving in cold weather. Hibernation is an extreme example, but even species that do not hibernate often exhibit changes in behavior during the winter. It has been argued that SDD is an evolved adaptation in humans that is a variant or remnant of a hibernation response in some remote ancestor...  Yes I may have been hiding under my warm wee rock, but its cosy and safe.  I'll surface soon

If you do find yourself with the winter blues, here are a few tips that have really helped me in the past month. Transitioning in two months from 37 degrees through to 3 degrees has been a little draining and daunting to lil  ole me who takes a bit to get acclimatized!

NZFW 2013: Annah Stretton

Based on the entire theme of Alice in Wonderland - from props, set, pre show characters, right down to the fabric in the garments this was truly a childhood story brought to life!  The Cheshire Cat, painted by BodyFX and the Mad Hatter Opened the  Annah Stretton show, prancing up and down the run way which was split down the middle by  line of vintage tables covered in cupcakes, macaroons, tea sets and flowers.  I knew we were in for an exciting show.

Featuring two halves to the show, and man frock coats, and suits,  dresses with many petticoats and flounces to the second half predominately spotty.  Polka dots on everything, reversed in black and white, huge floral crown hats made by Pheonix Cosmetics really tipped of the whimsical look and fairy tail feel of the whole show..

Nerida Cortese as Alice dancing with the Mad Hatter down the runway mid-show just added the final touch to the amazing production by Jonathan Smith.  Perfectly timed and choreographed, Nerida wearing a pretty circle skirt dress by Annah Stretton just made it perfect.  Even though it didn't seem to be the initial plan the runway audience loved being able to swarm the run way and snap both pictures and a cup-cake at the end of the show.

NZFW 2013: Pia Boutique

Opened by another Melbourne based Kiwi Esther Stephens singing a beautiful song "Under You" wearing a signature smock dress, hemmed with cute frills in bright blues, pinks and aqua marines.  Definitely an exciting way to engage the attention of a runway audience overwhelmed by the amount of shows at fashion week.
